How a PTO generator works

The generator is driven by the tractor’s power take-off shaft, so no separate engine is needed. The recommended PTO speed is 430–450 rpm, which corresponds to a tractor engine speed of about 1500 rpm.

Frequency and voltage depend on the rotation speed. For this reason, large indicator lights show the driver whether the speed is in the right range. This is the so-called traffic-light function.

In addition, the frequency and voltage display lets you follow use and load closely. The operating hours counter makes it easier to track servicing.

EZG 25/2 II/TN-S in field use and as standby power

In field use, the generator operates as an IT network with active insulation monitoring. The monitoring detects insulation faults and improves electrical safety in mobile installations.

When feeding a building’s electrical installation, the TN network is used. Protection is then provided by an all-pole miniature circuit breaker.

As a result, the same unit works both as a mobile power source and as standby power.

Sizing and choosing the tractor

The recommended tractor output is about 50 hp, and the rated current is 31.7 A.

The feed-in socket (5-pin CEE, 1 h) is designed for the generator’s maximum output.

It is the smallest model in the series and suits smaller tractors. For a tractor of about 80 hp, the EZG 40/4 II/TN-S delivers 40 kVA.

Mounting, transport and accessories

The generator attaches to the tractor’s category 2 three-point linkage. The sturdy steel frame has forklift pockets for moving it.

The weight is about 220 kg. The dimensions are 1130 x 740 x 942 mm (L x W x H).

Safety

The automatic safety shutdown of the EZG 25/2 II/TN-S protects the electrical system from overload. The generator meets the safety standards of the Agricultural Employer’s Liability Insurance Association (DGUV).

Keep the PTO shaft guards in place and stay clear of the rotating shaft. Moreover, place the tractor outdoors so exhaust gases cannot enter buildings.
