Why is a well-equipped first aid cabinet required on construction sites?

EU law sets minimum safety and health requirements for temporary or mobile construction sites under Council Directive 92/57/EEC. The directive obliges employers and project supervisors to keep adequate first aid provisions easily accessible and tailored to site-specific risks, such as eye-wash facilities during chemical exposure.

In Finland, for example, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (738/2002, section 46) requires employers to arrange adequate first aid readiness and equipment.

On site, first aid equipment must be easy to find and close to the work. Therefore, a portable cabinet moves with the site as work progresses from one floor or area to another.
