Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump takes heat from the outdoor air and transfers it into a fluid circuit. Output capacity is 11.4–28 kW and the fluid temperature range −10…+60 °C, so one module handles heating, cooling and controlled drying. It is the energy-efficient base unit of the Aurora Block system, and units are chained into one installation. The SKU is 1050601001.

Who is the Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump for?

The module is designed for construction sites, renovation projects, halls and temporary premises. It is typically the primary heat source of the system in urban environments.

It suits tight plots where a conventional heating container will not fit. The footprint is 1140 x 1440 mm, and units can be stacked or lifted onto a balcony, an intermediate floor or a roof.

On sites where the heat demand changes in stages, modules are added as the demand grows.

Three purposes in one module

Heating. The fluid flow temperature is set to suit the site, up to +60 °C. The 9 kW electrical heater supplied as standard acts as a backup heat source.

Cooling. Cooling capacity is 20 kW (A35) and the EER up to 3.55, so summer use needs no separate equipment.

Drying. The combined heating and cooling capability enables controlled drying and humidity management. Steady heat shortens the wait before surfacing work.

Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump in the hybrid system

Aurora Block combines air-to-water heat pumps, ground-source heat pumps and fuel-fired backup heat into one centrally managed energy grid.

This module is the primary source of heating and cooling. When the outdoor temperature drops to about −25 °C and heat pump efficiency falls, the system automatically starts the 64 kilowatt backup heating unit, which produces water at 90 °C.

The changeover needs no action from the user, so heat does not break during a cold spell. Ground thawing has its own dedicated unit, a separate thawing trailer.

Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump and Spine remote control

The module is controlled and adjusted through the Spine platform. You see temperatures, energy consumption and the device status in real time, and deviations raise an alarm. A five-year Spine licence is included in the delivery.

Remote control reduces site visits and shortens response time when something goes wrong. Read more about Spine heating control.

Commissioning the module

The module is lifted into place, connected to the fluid circuit with 2″ flange couplings and wired to a 32 A / 400 V supply through the appliance inlet.

Commissioning needs no fixed structures and no site-specific design work. Settings are made in the Spine service, after which the system adjusts itself according to the measured temperature.

Heating and cooling are distributed through fan units or directly into a hydronic circuit. As the site grows, more modules are chained alongside.

Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump and emissions

The heat pump takes most of its energy from the outdoor air, so purchased energy is only needed to run the compressor. Primarily zero-emission heat pump operation cuts CO₂ emissions by over 90 % compared with conventional solutions.

According to Arctic Warm, Aurora Block lowers total costs by up to 30 %. Finland’s national energy agency Motiva publishes background on heat pumps and energy efficiency.

When heating is based primarily on a heat pump, the share of fuel in the costs falls and the costs become more predictable.

Structure and siting on a tight plot

The piping and frame are stainless steel and the circulation pump is self-venting. The module weighs 370 kg and fits a 1140 x 1440 mm footprint.

Units can be stacked, placed in a narrow installation corridor or lifted onto a balcony, an intermediate floor or a roof. A conventional heating container would need considerably more space and a fixed foundation for the same output.

Output capacity is 11.4–28 kW and the COP up to 4.1. Cooling capacity is 20 kW (A35) with an EER up to 3.55.

In what temperatures does the module work?

The fluid temperature range is −10…+60 °C. At about −25 °C the hybrid system moves heat production to the Aurora 64 backup heating unit.

Does the module have a backup heat source?

Yes. A 9 kW electrical heater is included as standard and supports heat production when needed.

Can the module be used for ground thawing?

Ground thawing has its own dedicated unit, the Aurora Frost ground thawing trailer, with 600 m of thawing hose on integrated reels.

What are the dimensions and weight?

Dimensions are 1140 x 1440 x 1600 mm and the weight 370 kg. The modules are stackable.

What electrical supply is needed?

The supply is 32 A / 400 V through an appliance inlet, and the maximum power input is 11 kW.

What is the product code?

The SKU is 1050601001. Use it in quotation requests and spare part enquiries.

Can several modules be combined?

Yes. All units interconnect with 2″ flange couplings into one centrally managed energy grid, sized according to the site.

Before requesting a quote you can calculate your site’s heating energy need with the heating energy calculator – it shows how many modules and which combination the site requires.
