K-type temperature sensor – how it works

A type K thermocouple produces a voltage proportional to the temperature, and the meter converts it into a reading. The sensor is made of thermocouple wire K.

The fibreglass insulation protects the wire, and the 1 metre sensor cable brings the measuring point outside the casting. In addition, the measuring range reaches 400 °C.

You can use the sensor 10 times. For example, several sensors in different spots show whether the casting warms up evenly.

Use in winter concreting

In cold weather, you monitor the temperature of the casting so that the concrete does not freeze before it hardens. The reading therefore tells you whether the heating is sufficient.

You read the sensor with the Mastech MS6500 concrete thermometer, a digital thermometer for type K sensors. For heating the casting, concrete curing cables are suitable.

The sensor cable is thin. Therefore, route it out of the casting so that nobody steps on it and it does not get caught between the formwork.
