Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump takes heat from the outdoor air and transfers it into a fluid circuit. The output is 11.4–28 kW and the fluid temperature range –10…+60 °C, so one module handles heating, cooling, drying and frost thawing. The module is part of the Aurora Block system, in which units are chained together into a single installation.

Who is the Aurora 28 air-to-water heat pump for?

The module is designed for construction sites, renovation projects, halls and temporary facilities.

It suits tight urban plots particularly well — plots where a conventional heating container simply does not fit. The footprint is 1140 × 1440 mm, and units can be stacked or lifted onto a balcony, an intermediate floor or a roof.

Where the heating demand grows in stages, modules are added as the need increases.

Heating. The flow temperature is set to suit the site, up to +60 °C.

Cooling. The same unit also produces cooling, so summer use needs no separate equipment.

Drying. Steady heat speeds up the drying of structures and shortens the wait before surfacing.

Frost thawing. Warm water is fed to heating mats or hoses, thawing the ground without separate thawing equipment.

Part of the Aurora Block hybrid system

Aurora Block combines air-to-water heat pumps, ground-source heat pumps and fuel-fired backup heat into one system.

Aurora 28 acts as the system’s primary source of heating and cooling. When the outdoor temperature drops to about –25 °C and the heat pump’s efficiency falls, the system automatically starts the Aurora 64 boiler, which produces water at 90 °C.

The changeover happens without any action from the user, so the heat does not break during a cold spell.

Putting the module into service

The module is lifted into place, connected to the fluid circuit with 2″ Camlock couplings and wired to a 3 × 32 A supply.

Commissioning needs no fixed structures and no site-specific design work. Settings are made in the Spine service, after which the system regulates itself according to the measured temperature.

As the site grows, further modules are chained alongside.

Transport and placement on a tight plot

The module weighs 370 kg and occupies 1140 × 1440 mm. It is lifted into place with an ordinary site crane or telehandler.

Units can be stacked, placed in a narrow installation corridor or lifted onto a balcony, an intermediate floor or a roof. A conventional heating container would need considerably more space and a fixed foundation for the same output.

Moving from one site to the next takes no dismantling work, because the connections are 2″ Camlock quick couplings.

Energy consumption and emissions

The heat pump draws most of its energy from the outdoor air, so purchased energy is only needed to run the compressor.

According to Arctic Warm, Aurora Block cuts total costs by up to 30 % and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 % compared with fuel-fired heating. Finland’s national energy agency Motiva publishes background on heat pump technology.

When heating rests primarily on a heat pump, the share of fuel in the running cost falls and the cost becomes easier to predict.
