Aurora 64 oil boiler is the redundancy layer of the Aurora Block system – a reliable backup and peak power unit that secures heat production during power outages and extreme conditions. Output is 64 kW, efficiency 90–98 % and the flow temperature up to 90 °C. The unit has an HVO-compatible fuel tank of approximately 500 litres and eight hours of battery backup. Who is the Aurora 64 oil boiler for?

The unit is meant for sites where heat production must not stop. It complements heat pump–based modules whenever other energy sources are unavailable or capacity is insufficient.

It also suits sites where the power supply is unreliable or is interrupted from time to time. The battery backup keeps the unit running for eight hours without mains power.

The unit also works as a standalone device on sites that need no heat pumps at all. Typical applications are security-of-supply installations, temporary accommodation and infrastructure sites where an interruption would be costly.

The module has the same dimensions as the other Aurora Block units, so it is stacked and moved with the same equipment and needs no foundation of its own.

Backup heat. When the outdoor temperature drops to about −25 °C or the power fails, the system starts the unit automatically, with no action from the user.

Peak power. During the coldest spells the unit produces extra capacity alongside the heat pumps, so heating output is sufficient in exceptional conditions too.

The unit is not used for cooling. That is handled by the air-to-water heat pump module or the ground-source module.

The unit’s own electrical demand is small: the supply is single-phase and the maximum power input 500 W. The battery backup lasts eight hours.

The Spine platform responds to a temperature drop and to a power outage automatically, so no manual intervention is required.

Spine remote control and alarms

The unit is controlled and adjusted through the Spine platform. You see the fuel level, temperatures and device status in real time. A five-year Spine licence is included in the delivery.

Fuel and emissions

The fuel tank holds approximately 500 litres, and the unit runs on both diesel and HVO biodiesel. Running time depends on how large a share of the heat the unit produces.

Fuel is consumed only by the redundancy layer, keeping overall system CO₂ emissions over 90 % below conventional solutions. Finland’s national energy agency Motiva publishes background on renewable fuels and heating methods.

Condensing technology raises the efficiency to 90–98 %, so considerably more is drawn from the fuel than with an ordinary boiler.

Commissioning the unit

The unit is lifted into place, connected to the hydronic circuit with 2″ flange couplings and wired to a single-phase supply.

Heat is distributed through fan units or directly into a hydronic heating circuit. Settings are made in the Spine service.

The unit is part of the same modular system as the heat pumps, so it is stacked and moved in the same way.
