Modular hybrid heating for construction sites and industry
Aurora Block is a modular hybrid heating system that makes sure the temperature never drops too low – not in extreme cold and not during a power cut. It was developed for tight urban sites, where a conventional heating container does not fit.
Aurora Block combines three energy units that work independently or as a hybrid:
- Aurora 28 – air-to-water heat pump, 11.4–28 kW
- Aurora 40 – ground-source heat pump, 20–51 kW
- Aurora 64 – oil boiler as backup heat, 64 kW

Why modular hybrid heating differs from other solutions
A hybrid that guarantees uninterrupted heat
The system switches automatically between air, ground and fuel-fired heat. When the temperature falls to about –25 °C, it moves to the Aurora 64 module, which produces water at 90 °C and keeps running through a power cut thanks to 16 hours of battery backup.
The result is reliable, energy-efficient and uninterrupted heating in any conditions – including an arctic climate. Arctic Warm states the system’s operating reliability at over 99 % across demanding sites.
Heating, cooling, drying and frost thawing in one system
Aurora 28 and Aurora 40 heat and cool fluid across –10…+60 °C and –12…+60 °C. Aurora 28 and Aurora 64 also handle frost thawing, where warm water is fed to heating mats or hoses.

Energy-efficient and low-emission
The heat pumps draw their energy from the air or the ground, cutting both energy costs and emissions. Aurora 64 runs on diesel or HVO biodiesel, which burns more cleanly than a conventional oil boiler.
According to Arctic Warm, the system cuts total costs by up to 30 %, carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 %, and makes costs up to 85 % more predictable. In conventional heating as much as 90 % of the cost comes from fuel – which is exactly why cutting running hours delivers the largest saving. Finland’s national energy agency Motiva publishes background on heat pump technology.
Modular hybrid heating scales with the project
Aurora Block scales from a single module to a large multi-component system. Modules are combined to match the project’s output demand exactly, and capacity is added in stages as construction proceeds. An example configuration totals 296 kW.
The modular format means the units can be:
- stacked on top of each other
- placed in narrow shafts and installation corridors
- lifted onto a balcony, an intermediate floor or a roof

Reliable operation even in extreme cold
Where conventional heat pumps lose output at –25…–30 °C, Aurora Block keeps the system working by:
- starting the Aurora 64 module automatically at low temperature
- compensating as the heat pumps’ COP falls
- continuing to run through a power cut (Aurora 64: 16 h battery)
- delivering a high flow temperature, up to +90 °C
That protects the project from delays, frost damage and downtime.
Modular hybrid heating is remote-controlled and autonomous

What does modular hybrid heating mean?
The system is built from separate modules that are combined into one installation. It uses several heat sources – air, ground and fuel – and switches between them automatically as conditions change.
