SPINE · WATER

Water consumption made visible, leaks caught before the bill.

Spine water meters continuously measure consumption by ultrasound and automatically send the data to the Spine service. Leaks, pipe bursts and unusual consumption trigger an alarm within hours. Spine water keeps consumption visible for the whole project.

The situation without Spine

A water leak shows up on the bill first, not in the pipe

A temporary pipe run can leak quietly for weeks. The most common way to notice it is the water utility’s bill, by which point the consumption is already paid for.

Leaks

A small leak in a continuous flow doesn’t stand out visually at all.

Nighttime

Night-time consumption shouldn’t be zero, but no one tracks it in real time.

Billing

Consumption ends up as a single total figure, even though it should be split by area.

Frost

The freeze risk is often noticed only after a pipe has already burst.

When this matters

Three situations where water costs more than it should

A site’s water connection is rarely anyone’s responsibility until the bill arrives. Spine makes consumption visible for the whole project.

A leak over the weekend

A broken fitting leaks from Friday to Monday. Spine detects the unusual night-time flow and sends an alarm within a few hours.

Freeze risk in winter

A low-temperature warning and an automatic shut-off valve cut the water supply outside working hours, so the pipe burst never happens.

Allocating consumption

When a site has several contractors or phases, hour-by-hour consumption data shows where the water is actually going.

How it works

Ultrasonic measurement with no moving parts

The Spine system is integrated directly inside the meter, so no separate communication devices are needed.

  • Remote reading without a local network An NB-IoT connection sends measurement data automatically to the Spine cloud. No network infrastructure or separate data logger needs to be built on site.
  • Accurate even at low flow rates Accuracy class R400 and a starting flow of 0.003 m³/h mean even a slow leak shows up in the data.
  • Installs in any position No straight pipe sections required. Horizontal, vertical or at an angle all work, and air, sand or impurities don’t interfere with the measurement.
  • Automatic water shut-off Combined with a Spine control unit and a motorized shut-off valve, the water can be cut off on a schedule outside working hours.
  • Maintenance-free for the whole project No moving parts, a composite body, IP68 protection rating and a battery life of up to 13 years.

Alarms

What Spine alerts you to automatically

Alarms arrive as separate messages the moment the meter detects a deviation. Thresholds are configured in the app; the default leak threshold is a continuous flow of 25 l/h.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about water meters

Is the meter approved for billing measurement?

Yes. The meter meets the requirements of the MID 2014/32/EU, EN ISO 4064 and OIML R49 standards and is approved for water utility use across Europe. Read more about the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID).

Does the meter need a separate data transmission device?

No. The Spine system is built into the meter and uses an NB-IoT connection, so no local network infrastructure is required.

Can the water be shut off automatically outside working hours?

Yes. The Spine control unit and motorised shut-off valve cut the water supply on a schedule and detect deviations when the valve is opened again.

How is the leak alarm threshold set?

The default threshold is a continuous flow of 25 l/h. The threshold and alarm recipients are configured per site in the Spine app.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life is up to 13 years. Spine gives proactive notice as the charge level drops, so the meter never quietly goes offline.

Does installation require straight pipe sections?

No. The meter can be installed in any position, and air, sand or other impurities do not disturb the ultrasonic measurement. Measurement is bidirectional.
